How does it work
How HydroCure Wraps® Work
A modern, reusable version of the Priessnitz Water Cure method. The cool, damp cotton insert is held inside insulating outer layers.
The 3-Phase Response
The traditional Priessnitz method moves through cooling → gradual warming → increased local blood circulation.
Vasoconstriction
Initial cooling briefly narrows superficial blood vessels:
- Can ease pain
- Can help limit swelling
- Reduces local blood flow initially
Vasodilation
Your body warms the area beneath the insulating layers. Blood vessels gradually widen:
- More blood flows to the area
- Brings oxygen and nutrients
- May ease muscle tension
Local Hyperaemia
The warmer phase brings increased local blood flow. In traditional Priessnitz hydrotherapy, this is described as supporting:
- Local blood circulation
- Tissue repair processes
- The body’s natural healing response
This describes the traditional cold-to-warm method. Follow the application and duration in your individual wrap guide; some situations call for short cooling rather than a full warming cycle.
Why choose HydroCure Wraps instead of a hot water bottle or cold pack?
Hot water bottles provide heat; cold packs provide cooling. HydroCure Wraps use cool water and insulating layers to follow the traditional 3-phase response: cooling → gradual warming → increased local blood circulation.
Hot water bottle
- Provides heat from an external source.
- Can be too hot for sensitive skin or children.
- Risk of burns or scalds if too hot, leaking or damaged.
- Can feel bulky and move out of position.
Cold compress / ice pack
- Provides only cooling.
- A frozen pack can feel too intense for sensitive skin.
- Some packs need to be held in place by hand.
- A frozen pack needs a suitable protective layer between it and the skin.
HydroCure Wraps
- Use cool water.
- Combines all three phases naturally: water provides the initial cooling, your own body creates the warmth, and local blood circulation increases. A hot water bottle supplies heat; a cold pack supplies cooling.
- Soft cotton against the skin, with insulating outer layers.
- Stay in place with adjustable fastenings for comfortable use while resting.
- No electricity, boiling water or freezer blocks — just cool water for the traditional damp-liner application.
Choose the application and duration from your individual wrap guide. A full cold-to-warm application is not suitable for every condition or fresh injury.
Three layers
Inner removable layer
Absorbent cotton insert moistened before application.
Middle insulating layer
Helps prevent moisture passing through the wrap and reduces heat loss.
Outer layer
Soft, comfortable layer designed to hold the wrap securely in position.
Three ways to use the wrap
Traditional cold-to-warm
The damp insert initially feels cool, then gradually becomes comfortably warm beneath the insulating layers. Follow the duration for your wrap and reason for use.
Short cold application
The wrap is deliberately removed earlier, before the full warming response develops. The short cold application has a different purpose and duration.
Warm and dry
Use the wrap dry for gentle warmth where recommended. The HydroCure cherry-stone heat pillow is sold separately. Follow its heating instructions and check the temperature before use.
What you may feel
An initial sensation of coolness is expected when the damp insert is first applied.
During a longer cold-to-warm application, the area should gradually feel less cold and become comfortably warmer as body heat accumulates beneath the insulating layers.
Temporary mild redness of the skin may occur after removal as local skin blood flow changes.
A short cold application is deliberately removed earlier, before the full warming response develops.
Stop using the wrap if you experience significant pain, prolonged numbness, marked skin irritation or any unexpected reaction.
